SimplyCLICK SBI Card: fees, benefits and practical review

A plain-English guide to who this card may suit, what it costs, how its benefits work and where its limitations matter.

Product summary

SimplyCLICK is an online-shopping rewards card, not a flat-cashback product. Accelerated points can be useful when spending falls within current partner and online categories, but the points must be valued through the redemption options the cardholder will actually use. Partner lists and programme terms can change, so the card needs more active monitoring than a simple statement-credit product.

Editorial position: A reward card is useful only when it fits expenses you already make, its usable value exceeds its cost, and you pay the total amount due on time. FinancialEssentials.in does not guarantee approval.

Key benefits at a glance

Feature 1

Rewards structure

Accelerated points on eligible online and partner spending, with base points on other eligible spends

Feature 2

Travel access

1% fuel-surcharge waiver on eligible ₹500–₹3,000 transactions, capped at ₹100 per statement cycle

Benefits are governed by the issuer’s current terms. Merchant category, posting date, payment channel, refunds and EMI conversion can affect eligibility. Treat marketing percentages as the start of research, not the final decision.

Fees and the real cost of ownership

ItemCurrent summaryWhat to check
Joining fee₹499 + applicable taxesWhen charged and whether a welcome benefit requires payment
Annual fee₹499 + applicable taxesTaxes and the anniversary date
WaiverRenewal fee reversed on annual spends of ₹1,00,000 or moreEligible spend and reversal timing
Finance chargesIssuer schedule appliesCost when the full bill is not paid

A fee waiver is not a reason to overspend. Compare the fee plus taxes with benefits you will genuinely use. Cash withdrawal, late-payment, over-limit, forex, rent, utility and redemption charges may apply even when the membership fee is nil.

How rewards or cashback work

Accelerated points on eligible online and partner spending, with base points on other eligible spends

Separate the programme into eligible rate, base rate, caps, exclusions, posting time and redemption value. A point is not automatically worth one rupee. Cashback can be reversed after a refund or cancellation. Save the issuer terms when applying and compare them with each statement.

Important caps and exclusions

  • Reward points are not the same as cash and redemption value varies.
  • Partner-based 10X earning depends on current eligible merchants and payment conditions.
  • Some transactions, including specified financial and fuel transactions, do not earn points.
  • The renewal fee is only reversed after the stated annual-spend threshold.

The issuer controls transaction classification. A grocery-looking merchant may use a different code, while a wallet or aggregator payment may be treated differently from a direct card purchase.

Illustrative spending example

Arjun makes ₹12,000 of eligible online purchases and ₹5,000 of other eligible spending in a month. The online transactions may receive accelerated points while the remaining eligible spending earns the base rate. He should not multiply the full ₹17,000 by a single advertised rate because partner, online and base categories differ. If he redeems for a voucher he would not otherwise buy, its face value is not necessarily personal value. His useful return is the value of the redemption he would have paid for, less the annual fee and any redemption cost.

Important: This educational example does not include every exclusion, tax, posting delay, reversal or programme change and is not a guaranteed return.

Who may consider this card?

Consider SimplyCLICK SBI Card when normal spending matches online rewards, the issuer’s criteria are met and benefits remain worthwhile after fees. You also need a reliable system for checking statements and paying the full balance.

Consider an alternative when

Choose a simpler or lower-fee option when you rarely use the highlighted categories, dislike tracking caps, cannot use the reward currency or may carry a balance. If repayment is difficult, stop optimising rewards and use the Credit Card Payoff Calculator.
